"The war in Iran has put Baku on high alert however. The country has so far been spared Iranian retaliatory strikes, which have targeted neighbouring countries hosting US and Israeli military installations. So far, Azerbaijan has slipped through the net. The country has long been the Mossad's rear base in the region, in exchange for which Israel has equipped the local army with drone and interception technologies," reports Intelligence Online, a media outlet closely aligned with the French intelligence services.
"At the start of the Israeli-US offensive, President Ilham Aliyev and the head of foreign intelligence, Orkhan Soultanov, sent a message to Tehran and Tel Aviv asking both governments to keep it out of the war. According to our sources and from observations from open sources, the country was not used by Israeli and US forces to carry out strikes during the military phase launched on 28 February. In return, Iran did not carry out any retaliatory strikes on Israeli targets in Azerbaijan," Intelligence Online adds.
