Iran maintains “very good relations” with Armenia over TRIPP initiative, ambassador says

During a meeting with students at Yerevan State University, Iran’s ambassador to Armenia, Khalil Shirgholami, described the U.S.-backed TRIPP initiative as “a road rather than a corridor.”

Responding to a question about whether Tehran’s concerns over the project had eased, the envoy said Iran and Armenia are in continuous contact and maintain “very good relations” on the issue. “If the aim of this road is to expand opportunities and support peace, we are not opposed,” he said.

“Given the United States’ hostile posture toward Tehran, we had concerns, which we discussed with our Armenian partners in a very warm atmosphere. They assured us that Armenia would not be used as a platform for actions against Iran. There is mutual trust between us,” Shirgholami added.
