U.S. vice president: Besides Trump, only the Azerbaijani president has good relations with both Turks and Israelis

On February 10, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held an expanded meeting with U.S. Vice President JD Vance in Baku.

"I had two meetings with President Trump in the last six months, and also your official visit to Azerbaijan—this really demonstrates the mutual interest and mutual will to strengthen our partnership. Today, our partnership is going to be elevated to a higher level formally, and the scope of activity and interaction between our teams really demonstrates a high level of partnership spirit," Ilham Aliyev stated during the meeting.

JD Vance said: "Unfortunately, the last administration made a lot of mistakes, and one of the mistakes that it made is that it had a very dumb policy towards Azerbaijan. We have corrected that under the President's (Trump`s) leadership... But this is a good meeting among friends who have accomplished a lot in the last year, and I think we'll accomplish a great deal more in the next three years."

The U.S. vice president also highlighted the tolerant environment prevailing in Azerbaijan, noting that representatives of different religions live in peace and friendship in the country as one family.

Later, Aliyev and Vance signed the “Charter on Strategic Partnership between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United States of America.” The document includes provisions on cooperation in energy, trade, transit, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and security. The latter covers expanding the scope of U.S.–Azerbaijan defense and security cooperation, including defense sales, as well as efforts to strengthen capabilities in cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection.

Following the signing ceremony, President Aliyev noted: "For us, it's a great honor to be a strategic partner of the most powerful country in the world, the United States of America... Today, relations between the United States and Azerbaijan are entering an absolutely new phase."

JD Vance, in turn, said: "I think it will be a stronger and even better relationship under President Trump's leadership and under President Aliyev's leadership... We're going to ship some new boats to Azerbaijan to help you with the protection of your territorial waters... We signed a strategic partnership, which I think will formalize that partnership and make it very clear that the United States-Azerbaijan relationship is one that will stick, and is one that will continue to produce great fruits for both of our peoples... Other than President Trump, the only leader in the world who has really good relations with both the Turks and the Israelis is President Aliyev."
