Azerbaijan has expressed its position amid developments around Iran by hosting Israel’s foreign minister in Baku, Iran expert Grigor Arakelyan wrote in an article published in the Yerevan-based weekly Azg.
“During a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart in Baku on January 26, Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, apparently with Baku’s tacit consent, stated that the situation in Iran had reached ‘unprecedented proportions’ and urged the international community to pay attention to the situation in the country,” Arakelyan noted.
“Armenia — due to its geographical location as Iran’s immediate neighbor and one of the most vulnerable countries in the region — has so far not publicly outlined any measures being taken in response to potential refugee flows or emerging security risks,” the expert added.
