Former Armenian president: U.S. interest in Trump Route is control of Iran’s border

At a press conference, former Armenian president Robert Kocharyan, an opposition figure with a Russia-leaning political stance, said the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) initiative is an Armenian–U.S. project that benefits Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Kocharyan argued that Washington has “zero” economic interest in the South Caucasus and said the United States’ main focus in the project is Iran — specifically, “control of Iran’s border.”
He also said U.S.–Iran relations “largely depend on Israel’s policy,” and warned that Armenia is putting itself in a weak position in pursuit of wider geopolitical interests.
