Mehr: Azerbaijani state media welcomed unrest in Iran

Azerbaijan’s state media have reacted favorably to the recent unrest in Iran, portraying it as a development that weakens the Islamic Republic, according to the Iranian news agency Mehr, which is affiliated with Iran’s Supreme Leader.

The news agency reports that several analysts in Baku have expressed hope that the events could help advance federalization initiatives in Iran and, in the longer term, contribute to the country’s fragmentation. The article argues that this narrative in Azerbaijani media reflects anti-Iran plans pursued by Israel and the United States, with Baku playing a role in carrying them out.

Mehr also claims there is a consensus among Azerbaijani experts on using the current situation to promote the so-called “Greater Azerbaijan” project, which envisions unifying northern and southern territories on both sides of the Aras River.
