Iranian think tank accuses Azerbaijan of facilitating rapid spread of protest videos

The Telegram channel of Iran’s Institute for Studies of the Contemporary World reports that channels affiliated with the Azerbaijani government or ethnonationalist separatist movements are posting protest videos from across Iran earlier—and distributing them faster—than anti-government Iranian channels within the Iranian diaspora.

The institute says it is highly likely that a group within the protest movement is using SIM cards registered in the Republic of Azerbaijan and accessing Azerbaijani telecom networks in border areas.

It adds that this tactic emerged after the 12-day Iran–Israel conflict in June 2025 and may indicate deeper Israel–Azerbaijan cooperation in the context of interference in Iran’s internal affairs.
