Carnegie Endowment: By backing Azerbaijan, Israel won a strategic ally on Iran’s border

"Israel, by providing military technology to Azerbaijan in its successful war against the Karabakh separatists and Armenia in 2020, won a strategic ally on the Iranian border... Baku has emerged as a regional middle power, backed by Türkiye and Israel, as Western and Turkish influence in the South Caucasus grows at Russia’s expense. For Tehran, this creates a very disturbing situation, characterized by a more assertive Azerbaijan, Israeli meddling, increased Western regional engagement on the political, military, and economic levels, especially with Armenia," writes the U.S. think tank Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
