Armenian newspaper highlights Armenia’s key role for Iran

“The prospect of an ‘awakening’ among people of Azerbaijani origin in Iran, the narratives of ‘Southern Azerbaijan,’ and even scenarios extending to the fragmentation of the country are on the agenda within Azerbaijani government circles. They also see an opportunity to take advantage of a weakening Iran, which opposes the status of the corridor (the Trump Route) proposed by them,” writes the Beirut-based Armenian newspaper Aztag Daily.

“The Armenian side will inevitably take these circumstances into account, noting that in both regions an Iranian retreat could, first and foremost, create fertile ground for Turkey to advance its interests. A particularly notable development was the visit to Yerevan by a delegation led by Iran’s deputy foreign minister, with talks focused on the unblocking agenda... After this turbulent phase, negotiations will inevitably resume. For Iran’s unblocking, Armenia constitutes an indispensable channel of communication. And for Armenia, Iran was—and continues to remain—a key artery,” the newspaper adds.
