Israeli think tank: Iran aims to prevent Armenia’s overt security integration into Israel–Azerbaijan frameworks

"Iran’s ambassadorial change in Armenia reflects a broader strategic adjustment driven by regional transformation. Tehran has effectively acknowledged that the United States has closed the Armenian transit option for IRGC operations. The task now shifts from expansion to preservation: maintaining economic connectivity with Armenia, preventing overt Armenian security integration into Israel-Azerbaijan frameworks, and sustaining at least one stable northern relationship as Iran confronts growing regional isolation and significant domestic unrest," writes the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security (JISS), an Israel-based think tank.
"For policymakers in Washington, Brussels, and regional capitals, Iran’s diplomatic pivot offers both opportunities and challenges. The shift toward conventional engagement may create space for managing Iranian concerns regarding regional connectivity initiatives while advancing Western strategic objectives. However, Tehran’s fundamental opposition to initiatives like TRIPP and its concerns about encirclement suggest that managing Iran’s response to South Caucasus transformation will require sustained diplomatic attention alongside the advancement of regional integration projects," the think tank adds.
