Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar is expected to arrive in Baku on January 26, according to Israeli sources. The visit is set to last one day and will include a series of meetings, notably talks with Azerbaijan’s foreign minister, before departing for Kazakhstan.
The trip follows growing attention from Western and Israeli analysts, with Baku frequently described as a gateway to Central Asia.
In a recent analysis, the Hudson Institute, a Washington-based think tank, noted: "Azerbaijan is in a strategic location. Situated on the western shore of the Caspian Sea, it serves as one of the primary gateways for Central Asia to reach European and global markets."
"Azerbaijan serves as a key access point for the critical minerals of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan," Forbes pointed out.
"Baku controls a key stretch of the Middle Corridor—the only land route from Europe to Asia that bypasses both Russia and Iran... It has become a bridge to Central Asia, a region the United States has recently prioritized as it seeks alternatives to Chinese rare earths," wrote Joseph Epstein, a senior analyst at the Turan Research Center at the Yorktown Institute, in an article for The National Interest.
