Armenian expert accuses Azerbaijan of involvement in Iran protests

Speaking on Pastinfo TV, Grigor Balasanyan—an international affairs expert and associate professor in the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy at Yerevan State University—alleged that Azerbaijan is involved in the recent protests in Iran.

According to Balasanyan, Azerbaijani–Israeli ties intensified shortly before the demonstrations. He pointed in particular to a visit to Baku by an Israeli delegation that included senior military officials. “This fits into a broader picture,” he said, arguing that at least three actors have an interest in destabilizing Iran: Israel, the United States, and Azerbaijan.

Citing Iranian media reports, Balasanyan noted that the situation in Iran is currently stabilizing. “A stable Iran means a stable Armenia. A stable Iran means secure borders, which in turn means that Armenia’s Syunik region will remain Armenian and that no serious incidents will occur along the borders,” he added.
