Former Azerbaijani MP: Baku maintains relations with Israel despite Iran’s threats

“Whether it is Iran’s foreign minister, religious leaders or commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, they have repeatedly threatened us over our relations with Israel. But the government of Azerbaijan ignores these threats and continues its relations with Israel,” former Azerbaijani MP Fazail Agamali said in an interview with Deutsche Welle’s Persian service (DW).

“Iran did not maintain friendly relations with Azerbaijan, but it enjoyed good relations with our enemies. Yet we never protested. Iran also has no right to protest. Azerbaijan is a responsible state that respects international law,” Agamali noted.

“When it comes to our foreign relations, we do not need the blessings of Iran’s mullahs and clergy,” the former parliamentarian stressed.
