One of the central issues in Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s visit to Baku is the question of Israel’s presence and role on Azerbaijani territory — a topic that drew particular attention during the 12-day war, the economic outlet Eghtesad Online writes.

The article notes that the timing of Araghchi’s trip — coming immediately after joint military exercises by Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states in northwestern Iran, amid escalating geopolitical competition in the Caucasus, and against the backdrop of Iran’s concerns “about Israel’s close relations with Baku” — gives the visit particular strategic importance.

“After Israel’s strikes against several sites in Iran during the 12-day war, some military officials in Tehran suggested that part of these attacks may have been carried out from Azerbaijani territory or via the Caspian Sea. Nonetheless, given the long-standing relationship between the Republic of Baku and the Israeli regime, this issue continues to be viewed as a potential threat to Iran,” the news outlet adds.
