Iran views NATO’s expanding influence, growing ties between Israel and Azerbaijan, and shifts in Turkey’s regional stance as challenges to its security and as threats along its northern border. According to Sputnik Armenia, this assessment was shared by Armina Arm, deputy director of the Institute for Iran–Eurasia Studies, during an expert conference titled “3+3 Format: Prospects and Possible Models of Regional Cooperation” held in Yerevan.
Arm noted that Tehran believes Israel’s military and technological cooperation with countries in the region is aimed at creating a ring around Iran. She added that Iran has similar concerns about the “Trump route” running through Armenia’s Syunik province, which Tehran views as part of a broader strategy to encircle the country and affect its connectivity with China and Russia.
