Iranian expert: Zangezur Corridor brings the South Caucasus closer to the West

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has for many years shown interest in rapprochement with the West and even in joining NATO, Iranian expert Abdolreza Faraji Rad stated in an interview with Iran 24. Armenia’s defeat — achieved with support from Turkey and Israel — has created political space for expanding cooperation with NATO, he added.

According to Faraji Rad, the strategic Zangezur Corridor project, signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington under the mediation of Donald Trump, “has opened up a new path for bringing the region closer to the West.”
