Lebanese media: Azerbaijan’s rapprochement with Israel puts Turkey in a difficult position

Criticism is growing against Azerbaijan for what some describe as its “obedience” to Israel “at the expense” of cooperation with Turkey, writes the Lebanese news outlet An-Nahar. According to the article, this shift could mark a change in regional dynamics and place Azerbaijan “in an awkward position vis-à-vis its brotherly Turkey.”

“In light of the unexpected steps taken by Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, the question now is whether Turkey will continue to view these countries as brotherly allies despite their tilt toward Israel… Growing tensions with Israel and the rapprochement of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan with that country may complicate Turkey’s ability to maintain its regional alliances, especially at a time when it seeks to strengthen its presence in the Middle East and play a role in addressing the Palestinian issue,” An-Nahar adds.
