Iranian professor: Pezeshkian’s visit to Azerbaijan signals preference for diplomacy over confrontation

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, speaking at the ECO Summit in the Azerbaijani city of Khankendi, “refrained from making direct statements” regarding accusations that Azerbaijan opened its airspace to Israeli military aircraft. However, he emphasized that “strengthening regional coordination reduces the desire of enemies to sow chaos.”

In an interview with the Qatari newspaper Al Jazeera, Iranian professor Atta Taghavi Asla stated: “Despite Iran’s ongoing investigation into the possible involvement of certain neighboring countries in the Israeli attack, Tehran’s decision not to cancel the pre-scheduled visit reflects a desire to use diplomacy to ease tensions and neutralize potential threats in line with national interests.”
