Iranian expert: Israel may have used Azerbaijani airspace without Baku’s knowledge

Azerbaijan maintains the most extensive political, economic, military, and intelligence ties with Israel among the countries of the Caucasus and Central Asia—making its potential involvement in the recent 12-day war against the Islamic Republic more plausible, said Hamid Khosroshahi, an Iranian expert on the South Caucasus, in an interview with the news and analysis website Etemad.

Despite denials by Azerbaijan’s president and senior officials that their territory or airspace was used against Iran, Khosroshahi claimed there is “evidence that strengthens the likelihood of the contrary.”

He argued that Israel may have used Azerbaijani airspace “without the knowledge of its authorities,” despite Baku’s categorical denials.
