The discovery of external fuel tanks along the Caspian coast has intensified suspicions about Azerbaijan’s involvement in Israeli airstrikes against Iran. Despite official denials from Baku, the country is widely seen as Israel’s closest strategic partner in the Caucasus. This was reported by SNN, an Iranian news outlet affiliated with the Basij paramilitary organization, a branch of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
“The discovery of these fuel tanks strengthens assumptions that hostile fighter jets, after flying a long route over the sea, jettisoned their empty tanks before entering Iranian airspace,” the news outlet notes.
SNN adds: “Given the considerable distance between the occupied territories and Iran’s northern borders, it seems nearly impossible to carry out such an operation without access to a base located near Iran’s frontier.”
