Iran’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilou, has denied a report claiming that, during the presentation of his credentials to the President of Azerbaijan, he stated: “the Iranian side is fully confident that Azerbaijani territory will never be used against Iran and that the Azerbaijani state will never allow such a scenario.”
According to Iranian writer Reza Sheibani, the ambassador promptly rejected the statement in a phone call, saying that “he never made such a remark.”
Sheibani pointed out that “the Azerbaijani APA agency was the first to spread this falsehood” and that Iran’s domestic news agency Tasnim, which is affiliated with the IRGC, republished it “without proper verification.” He added that many media outlets used Demirchilou’s alleged words in their headlines.
Notably, a Google search shows that Tasnim initially published the article with the now-refuted statement in the headline, which was later removed.
