Tehran to Reassess Azerbaijan Ties if Role in Israeli Attacks Confirmed

Iranian analysts reviewing the aftermath of Israeli strikes have turned their attention to the border with Azerbaijan, citing “on-site evidence and credible assessments,” according to the Iranian media outlet Khorasan. The article notes that, despite official denials from Baku, Azerbaijan’s close ties with Israel in recent years “cannot be ignored.”

The official opening of Azerbaijan’s embassy in Israel, Tel Aviv’s efforts to position itself as a key military, intelligence, and economic partner to Baku, and the critical role Israeli drones played in the Second Karabakh War “point to Tel Aviv’s transregional coordination near Iran’s borders,” Khorasan adds.

The article warns that if the hypothesis of Israel using Azerbaijani territory for intelligence or military operations against Iran is “even indirectly confirmed,” Tehran will be compelled to revise its northern security strategy and reconsider the future of its relationship with Azerbaijan.

“There is no doubt that the continuation of such a course by Azerbaijan will have consequences. Ultimately, it must be emphasized that if Baku’s involvement in the Zionist regime’s aggression is proven, Tehran will have to make a final determination regarding its stance on Azerbaijan,” the news outlet concludes.
