New Iranian ambassador to Baku: Iran is confident that Azerbaijani territory will never be used against Tehran

On June 27, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the credentials of Mojtaba Demirchilou, the newly appointed Ambassador of Iran, according to the Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC).

"President Ilham Aliyev pointed out that certain circles and media representatives were spreading rumors and false information aimed at damaging Azerbaijan-Iran relations in the context of these tensions. The Azerbaijani leader described all such claims as complete nonsense," AZERTAC reports. Demirchilou, in turn, stated, that "the Iranian side is fully confident that Azerbaijani territory will never be used against Iran and that the Azerbaijani state will never allow such a scenario."

The Armenian news website News.am reports that, on the same day, the Iranian Ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, stated: "We have received information that a small number of drones flew into Iranian territory from the territory of neighboring countries. Therefore, during a telephone conversation between the presidents of Iran and Azerbaijan, our president asked Aliyev to conduct a serious investigation into this matter. We will await the results of this investigation... It is possible that our enemy, the Zionist regime, made use of the territory of our neighboring state. Azerbaijan has assured us that it will not allow its territory to be used against Iran. However, we all know the Zionist regime very well: they do not follow any rules, they do not observe any laws. Therefore, there is still a possibility that they were able to take advantage of the moment."
