Israeli think tank reports on Iranian disinformation campaign against Azerbaijan

Despite official denials that Israel used Azerbaijani territory to carry out strikes on Iran, sharp criticism has surfaced on social media and Telegram channels linked to former members of Iran’s security services. These claims accuse Azerbaijan of becoming a covert partner in Israeli operations against Iran, according to the Israeli think tank Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs.

The think tank notes that such accusations against Azerbaijan began circulating in those sources following a recent strike on the city of Tabriz. The attack was described as “unprecedented” with aircraft allegedly entering from the north, via Azerbaijan, and bombing targets inside Iran. The claims also make reference to the prior deployment of Israeli aircraft in Baku and drone intrusions into sensitive areas, including Natanz.

Some unofficial Iranian sources further allege that Israel’s presence in Azerbaijan has reached such a level that “intelligence chiefs of the Zionist regime are holding face-to-face meetings with President Aliyev.” Azerbaijan is portrayed as “a free zone for Israeli operations,” while simultaneously escalating anti-Iranian rhetoric and repression of Shia communities. These sources claim that “the land of Islam” has become a base for Israeli officers and drones — and that Tehran’s inaction only reinforces a sense of impunity among Azerbaijani authorities.
