Since Azerbaijan gained independence, its relations with Iran have remained tense, writes the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, which is affiliated with Hezbollah — Iran’s largest regional proxy.
The article claims that “this can be explained by the political orientation of the authorities in Baku and by the fact that the U.S. and Israel have established control over Azerbaijan, with the primary goal of encircling the Islamic Republic from the north and diminishing Russian influence in the South Caucasus.”
The newspaper also states that “with the start of the Israeli-American aggression against Iran, Azerbaijani media began acting as though the war’s outcome was predetermined in Tel Aviv’s favor and that Tehran would emerge weakened — a scenario that would benefit Baku.”
