Russian military expert: Muslim countries unite around Iran while Azerbaijan backs the U.S. and Israel

In a recent interview with the Russian-Armenian news agency RUSARM INFO, Russian military expert Alexey Leonkov criticized Azerbaijan’s position in the Iran–Israel conflict.

“If we consider the role Azerbaijan played in this conflict against Iran, it is clear that it chose the wrong side—just as it did in relation to the events in the Gaza Strip. This choice significantly undermines Azerbaijan’s international standing, particularly within the Islamic world. Today, we are witnessing a growing sense of unity among Muslim countries around Iran, which was recently targeted by U.S. air and missile strikes. In such a context, it would have been logical for Azerbaijan to demonstrate solidarity (with Iran), as all Muslims around the world did... But Azerbaijan has taken a position that shows it is a loyal ally—or perhaps even a vassal—of the U.S. and Israel,” said Leonkov.

The military expert further stated that the presence of Israeli facilities in Azerbaijan is “an almost established fact.”
