The deepening ties between Azerbaijan and Israel have raised alarm in Tehran, “given Azerbaijan’s sensitive geographic position along Iran’s northern border, which makes this alliance a direct threat to Iran’s national security,” said Iranian political analyst Saeed Shavardi in an interview with the Saudi news channel Asharq.
According to Shavardi, “Iran accuses Azerbaijan of having become a strategic base for Israel, conducting espionage and reconnaissance operations targeting Iran’s interior, including Tehran and the northern provinces. There are reports that Israel is using Azerbaijani territory for wiretapping, electronic interference, and possibly even for gathering data related to missile launches from Iran—enhancing Israel’s early warning capabilities.”
