“The occupying state (Israel) holds a qualitative advantage in both military capabilities and intelligence. Today, the most significant developments are not assassinations or strikes on nuclear facilities, but rather intelligence revelations. Israeli media have reported that the operation was carried out by a ‘Mossad’ office based in one of Iran’s neighboring Asian countries, carrying out activities deep inside Iranian territory,” said Ahmed Kamel El-Beheiri, an expert at the Egyptian Center for Political and Strategic Studies.
The Egyptian news outlet Khaas ‘an Misr notes that “the accusations point to Azerbaijan—an Asian country bordering Iran to the north—as providing ‘Mossad’ with logistical and intelligence support, including the use of its territory for espionage operations and assassinations on Iranian soil.”
“A report published in 2023, citing U.S. intelligence officials, claimed that ‘Mossad’ agents used specialized intelligence facilities and offices on Azerbaijani soil to train local operatives and collect classified information on Iran’s nuclear program,” the news outlet reports.
Khaas ‘an Misr further asserts that “the presence of an actual ‘Mossad’ operations office in a country like Azerbaijan provides Israel with critically important strategic depth for monitoring and striking targets inside Iran—especially given that Israeli aircraft are incapable of reaching deep into Iranian territory without aerial refueling or access to intermediate airfields.”
