Iranian media: Israel hopes Azerbaijan will join Abraham Accords via U.S. mediation

Over the past month, the strengthening of relations between Azerbaijan and Iran has raised concerns in Israel about regional developments, according to Moj, Iran’s first private news agency.
“However, it is unlikely that Aliyev will revise Azerbaijan’s trade and economic ties with Israel, as throughout the year and a half since the outbreak of the Gaza war, neither the media nor senior Azerbaijani officials have taken a negative stance on the conflict or Israel’s actions. Moreover, Israel’s interest in Azerbaijan now goes beyond the Iran factor. Israel hopes that Baku’s efforts will help ease tensions with Turkey over the Syrian issue. In this context, Azerbaijan is actively playing the role of mediator,” the news agency notes.
“Israelis hope that, with Trump’s mediation, Azerbaijan will formally join the Abraham Accords, thereby allowing Israel to demonstrate that the Palestinian issue does not prevent it from strengthening ties—even with a Shiite Muslim country. As a result, in the coming months, Israel will try to reshape its ties with Azerbaijan in a way that offsets the recent warming of relations between Baku and Tehran,” Moj emphasizes.
