Iranian media: Azerbaijan’s close ties with U.S. and Israel expose it to risk from Tehran

The Azerbaijani government maintains good relations with Donald Trump—ties formed during his first term in office, largely due to Trump’s business connections with Baku. This was reported by the Iranian economic website EcoIran.
“The Azerbaijani authorities believe that their diplomatic closeness with Israel and geographical proximity to Iran make Baku strategically vital to America’s long-term interests—regardless of who occupies the White House. There were even signs that the Azerbaijani government had preferred Donald Trump’s re-election, believing he would have taken a tougher stance toward Iran. However, this alignment also entails risks. If tensions between Iran, Israel, and the United States escalate, Tehran may retaliate against Azerbaijan—either through military action or by leveraging the influence of Shiite clerics, especially if Baku is seen as supporting Israel,” the website notes.
