Iran Diplomacy: Azerbaijan promotes ties with Israel in Central Asia to deepen relations with the U.S.

By bringing Central Asian countries closer to Israel, Baku is seeking to enhance its own ties with the United States and bolster its role in Washington’s regional policy, according to the Iranian think tank Iran Diplomacy.

The article notes that Azerbaijan’s long-standing and close relations with Israel have played a role in fostering closer ties between Central Asian countries and the Jewish state.

"This has contributed to the growing influence of the Zionist regime within regional organizations of Turkic-speaking states (such as the Organization of Turkic States). By referring to the potential accession of some Turkic nations to the Abraham Accords, Baku seeks to reduce the negative perception surrounding the normalization of relations between Muslim countries—such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan—and Israel," the think tank notes.
