Israeli Ambassador to Armenia declines to comment on Azerbaijan’s military purchases from Israel

In an interview with Armenian news outlet News.am, Israeli Ambassador to Armenia Joel Lion commented on Armenian-Israeli relations while sidestepping questions about Israel’s military cooperation with Azerbaijan.

Ambassador Lion emphasized that there is room for deepening cooperation between Israel and Armenia in various fields, including medicine, culture, tourism, and the prospect of launching direct flights.

When asked whether Armenia should be concerned about Israel’s strategic partnership with Baku, the ambassador responded, “The fact that a country's interests are linked to those of other countries does not mean that it cannot also have another country as a friend and partner. The interests of the State of Israel also include Armenia.”

However, when questioned about Azerbaijan’s military purchases from Israel, Ambassador Lion declined to respond directly. “I will use my diplomatic immunity to say that we do not comment on Israel's national security policy,” he stated.
