Israeli media react to IRGC’s rhetoric against Azerbaijan and Israel | AIA Global News

This week, the Iranian news agency Fars, closely affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), used the Eurovision Song Contest as a pretext to escalate anti-Israeli rhetoric. This was reported by Israeli outlets such as Maariv, The Jerusalem Post, and others, including the religious outlet INN and the major news portal Walla.

“These statements reflect Iran’s longstanding hostility toward its Shiite northern neighbor, which Tehran regards as a ‘Zionist outpost in the Caucasus’ due to its close cooperation with Israel in the fields of security, trade, and culture,” Israeli media reported.

It was noted that during the Eurovision voting, Azerbaijan awarded Israel the maximum 12 points. “This gesture was warmly welcomed in Jerusalem but drew sharp condemnation from Tehran,” the outlets added.

On May 16, Fars commented on the Eurovision participation of Azerbaijan’s representative of Jewish origin and Israel’s contestant of Azerbaijani descent, claiming that “Azerbaijan and Israel are two nations, one state.”
