Iranian expert: Tehran could replace Israel as Azerbaijan’s arms supplier

“These steps (the joint military exercises conducted by Baku and Tehran in the Karabakh region of southwestern Azerbaijan) could pave the way for future arms deals between Iran and Azerbaijan,” said Iranian military expert Hossein Haghian in an interview with Al Jazeera.

Hagian added, “Especially considering that Iran has domestic alternatives to some of the Israeli weapons Azerbaijan relies on — such as attack drones and anti-tank missiles — this makes military cooperation between the two sides a more independent and cost-effective option.”
