In an interview with the Armenian media outlet CivilNet, political analyst Eric Hacopian commented on recent remarks by U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, who said that Azerbaijan and Armenia could potentially join the Abraham Accords.

“Many interpret this statement through the lens of the original agreements, when the U.S. encouraged countries without prior ties to Israel to normalize relations. But today, the Accords serve more as a pretext for establishing highly specific relationships rooted in American commercial interests. I believe Witkoff is implying that the U.S. has made concrete proposals to both parties — not open to negotiation, but presented unilaterally. This signals a significant American involvement in the region, likely driven more by economic than political motives. It could relate to transportation infrastructure, construction projects, or arms sales,” Hacopian said.
