“There's been a huge interest on behalf of Azerbaijan to strengthen ties with Israel. There's been unbelievable security cooperation. It's a very important country for Israel because of its proximity to Iran. And, in general, I think that it’s not only about being closer to the U.S and opening that door within the framework of the Abraham Accords, but also that Israeli technologies, intelligence, and security have been very significant vis-à-vis Azerbaijan — and Azerbaijan treasures that,” said former Israeli Knesset member Ruth Wasserman Lande, speaking on i24NEWS.
"Is there an issue, it being a Muslim country, a Shiite Muslim country vis-à-vis Israel? No, on the contrary," said Wasserman Lande. She noted that Azerbaijan is preparing for potential tensions with Iran, “which do happen every once in a while,” and emphasized that the country wants to be ready and "diversify options in terms of who will help them out.”
