Armenian expert: Tehran uses Iran-Azerbaijan drills to deter Israeli activity near its borders

Speaking to Sputnik Armenia, Armenian expert on Iran Vardan Voskanyan described Iran’s recent joint military exercises with Azerbaijan, known as “Araz-2025,” as an overstated military gesture. "The term 'military exercises' is somewhat exaggerated — it's more about preventing border incidents," he said, noting that the border zone has become a serious challenge for Iran "since Azerbaijan took control of Artsakh."
"The most concerning aspect is the potential deployment of certain Israeli or NATO structures in the area — particularly Israel’s intelligence operations targeting Iranian territory. Therefore, this (the joint military exercises) is a tool aimed at managing those risks," Voskanyan added.
