In recent years, Israel has been working to establish a strategic presence in the Caucasus, with Azerbaijan to some extent facilitating its expansion, writes the Iranian state newspaper Farhikhtegan.
"Active diplomacy in the Caucasus region, given the importance of the trip (of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Baku), could significantly limit the growth of Israeli influence. Moreover, prioritizing the completion of transport and trade projects within Iran is seen as an effective strategy to counter Israeli provocations in the region and to prevent security threats against Iran. The president’s emphasis on a sense of closeness with the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the highlighting of shared literary traditions, appears to be a step toward strengthening bilateral relations and preventing interference by third parties," Farhikhtegan adds.
