IRGC media mouthpiece: U.S. has no grounds for deepening ties with Azerbaijan

“Efforts to include Azerbaijan in the Abraham Accords are aimed at strengthening Baku’s relations with Washington, thereby encouraging Azerbaijan to adopt a tougher stance toward Iran,” reports the Iranian news agency Fars, which is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

“Undoubtedly, Israel and Azerbaijan would welcome ‘trilateral cooperation’ with the United States. However, it is difficult to see how such an arrangement would serve America’s long-term interests. Moreover, the U.S. has no compelling reason to reward Azerbaijan or deepen its ties with the country. Thus, Baku’s strategic significance to the United States is minimal and largely based on an ‘exaggerated Iranian threat,’” the news agency notes.
