IRGC-affiliated media: Azerbaijani President has aligned with Israel and distanced himself from Iran

“Following the death of Heydar Aliyev and the rise to power of Ilham (Aliyev), distancing from Iran and rapprochement with Israel became part of the agenda. Since then, Baku’s leadership has not missed a single opportunity to act with hostility toward Iran," writes the Iranian news agency Fars, which is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

“Ilham has placed his bet on the Zionists and on distancing from Iran. The passive stance of Iranian officials in previous years has also contributed to Baku’s estrangement from Iran. However, Ilham has demonstrated unwavering affection for Israel — even establishing a military base for it. We must wait and see how long this alliance endures, and what sacrifices both regimes are willing to make for one another,” Fars notes.
