The Jewish community in Baku is actively preparing for Pesach (a major Jewish holiday) with a range of community and educational initiatives, reports the Israeli media outlet Israel National News.
At the heart of the preparations is a traditional campaign through which food packages containing basic kosher products are distributed. The initiative is supported by international Jewish organizations.
At the same time, the community is ensuring the supply of matzah (an unleavened flatbread that is part of Jewish cuisine) through the STMEGI Fund for Mountain Jews. Some of the matzah is imported from Israel, and matzah-baking workshops for children are being held in local schools.
As part of efforts to strengthen Jewish identity among younger generations, two public Seders (ritual feasts marking the beginning of the holiday) are scheduled to take place at the Jewish school campus in Baku.
