In an interview with CIVILNET, Sergei Melkonian, a Research Fellow at the Applied Policy Research Institute of Armenia (APRI Armenia), commented on the cooperation between Israel and Azerbaijan.
“This is primarily Azerbaijan’s agenda — we can see Azerbaijan actively pursuing this direction,” said Melkonyan. “Azerbaijan is more interested in this than Israel is. Israel is already getting what it wants from Azerbaijan: intelligence along the Iranian border, and Mossad is operating very actively in Baku.”
“Israel wants to show that the real issue lies with Iran, not with Israel. They’re saying: ‘We have very good relations with Shiites and Azerbaijanis — the problem is with the Iranian regime,’” he added.
