“When Azerbaijan regained control over parts of Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020, it granted Israel permission to launch reconstruction projects for so-called ‘smart villages’ — initiatives based on advanced technologies such as high-speed internet, digital healthcare, renewable energy, and online education. Iran, however, views these projects with deep suspicion, believing they serve to expand Israeli influence in the Caucasus and shift the regional balance of power in Tel Aviv’s favor… The Azerbaijan-Israel alliance is a cause for concern in Tehran, which sees this partnership as a direct threat to its regional security. The ‘smart villages’ initiative also raises fears that it could serve as a platform for intelligence operations and cyberattacks targeting Iran,” reports Lebanese channel Al-Manar, the media mouthpiece of Hezbollah — Iran’s most powerful proxy force.
