Azerbaijani MP opposes Baku’s inclusion in the Abraham Accords framework

Azerbaijani MP Rasim Musabekov has spoken out against an initiative by Israeli experts—supported by American rabbis and the Shas party, which is part of Netanyahu’s coalition—to involve Azerbaijan in the Abraham Accords framework and lift U.S. congressional sanctions on Baku (Section 907).
"Our relations with Israel, some now want the Abraham Accords… It’s better to remain invisible. That's what I think we should continue doing. It has been quite effective, rather than now trying (to turn) this into some sort of agreement, especially with American involvement. I don't see what that would bring us… Yes, Israel is lobbying for the repeal of 907. We have worked hard to keep Azerbaijan out of congressional debates… Even if they suspend the amendment and the (Trump) administration announces it, in reality, no actual aid will be provided. Do we even need it right now? And any attempt to repeal 907 will inevitably lead to discussions, reactivating Armenian lobbyists in Congress, who will start imposing new demands on Azerbaijan. Do we need that? In general, in my view, Azerbaijan’s benefit from Trump’s victory was that the American administration under Trump would not be concerned with us… We can do perfectly well without U.S. military aid and handouts.
Earlier, Musabekov stated: "I don’t quite understand the idea of including Azerbaijan in the Abraham Accords, as their core purpose is to normalize relations between Israel and a number of Arab states. Azerbaijan’s relationship with Israel is already so advanced that it would take the signatories of the Abraham Accords decades to catch up with us. Therefore, Azerbaijan’s inclusion would merely serve as an example of how a strategic partnership with Israel can be built. That is the only way it would make sense—because in every other respect, Azerbaijan is far beyond the framework set by the Abraham Accords."
He also noted: "It is quite possible that the new administration will show greater respect for Azerbaijan’s position, and that our cooperation—including in the context of Azerbaijan-Israel relations—will positively impact Azerbaijan-U.S. relations. However, this is still an open question, and the answer has yet to be found.…In any case, Azerbaijan does not need U.S. assistance."
