Israeli MP: Azerbaijan suffers from US sanctions

“In practice, an absurd situation has arisen: countries that were in a state of war with Israel before signing the Abraham Accords began receiving various forms of support (from the United States) in the economic and security spheres immediately after signing the agreements. Azerbaijan, however, despite being a long-standing and essential pillar of our regional security system, suffers from American sanctions imposed after the collapse of the Soviet Union. These sanctions prohibit the provision of U.S. assistance to Azerbaijan’s government. It would be appropriate for Israel to leverage its influence with the new U.S. administration to encourage support for this Muslim country, which stands by our side. After all, we have already taken such steps in relation to Arab countries (Egypt, Jordan, and, in certain cases, the UAE),” said Moshiashvili, a member of the Knesset from the Shas party, which is part of the governing coalition, as cited by the Israeli news outlet Kikar.
