Azerbaijan Expects Trump to Prioritize Baku’s Interests in Peace Talks

"Azerbaijan believes that Donald Trump will focus more on securing the interests of the Azerbaijani Republic in this matter (the signing of a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan), at least because Ilham Aliyev openly and unequivocally supported Trump in the midst of the U.S. presidential elections. It is also evident that the 44‑day war in 2020 coincided with the end of Trump's first term, during which he did not intervene in the course of the Second Karabakh War." This was noted in an article by the Iranian news agency Tasnim, which is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The BESA think tank, in its policy paper containing recommendations for the Trump administration on forming a trilateral alliance (Azerbaijan-Israel-USA), emphasized: "Against the backdrop of the Trump administration’s efforts to reshape the global order, Azerbaijan’s significance—both for U.S. and Israeli strategic interests—has grown even further. This is driven by key trends in Washington’s new foreign policy approach, within which Azerbaijan’s advantages and capabilities can be effectively leveraged."
